These terms apply when you use the VaultSec app or this website. The operator is named in the legal notice. If you got the app from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and these terms add to it.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
1. The app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use VaultSec on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app except where the law expressly allows it.
2. Free version and Unlimited
The free version includes every protection and up to 100 items. Unlimited is an optional one-time purchase that removes that limit; it is not a subscription. Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play and are governed by their terms, including their refund policies. If you live in the EU, you agree that the unlock is delivered immediately, and you acknowledge that your right of withdrawal ends once it is, as permitted by EU consumer law.
3. Your PIN, and no recovery
Your Primary PIN, together with your phone’s security chip, is the only key to your vault. We cannot recover a forgotten PIN, reset it, or open your vault for you, and neither can anyone else. This is deliberate. You are responsible for keeping your PIN and a current encrypted backup safe. If you lose both, the content of your vault is gone.
4. Your content
What you keep in VaultSec is yours and stays on your device; we never receive it. You are responsible for it and for using the app lawfully. You must not use VaultSec to store or share content that is illegal where you are, including material that exploits children.
5. Not an emergency service
VaultSec protects files. It is not a safety plan and cannot contact anyone for you. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number. Our safety page lists free helplines.
6. Availability and changes
We work to keep VaultSec reliable, and we may update it to fix problems, improve security or add features. We may stop offering it in the future; because your data lives on your device, you will keep access to it in the version you have installed, and you can always export it.
7. Warranty
We provide VaultSec with the care it deserves and as described on this website, but no software is free of defects. To the extent the law allows, the app is provided “as is”, without guarantees that it will meet every need or be error-free. This does not affect any statutory guarantee you have as a consumer, such as the EU’s legal guarantee of conformity for digital content.
8. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data that results from a forgotten PIN, a lost or damaged device, or files you exported or shared yourself. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Unlimited. Nothing here limits liability for intent, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or any liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Export and sanctions
VaultSec uses strong encryption. You are responsible for complying with the export, import and sanctions laws that apply to you.
10. Intellectual property
The VaultSec name, Strongbox Sam and all illustrations, text and code are ours or our licensors’. The typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font License; see credits.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the country where the operator is established. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of your country of residence and may bring proceedings in its courts. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. Please write to hello@vaultsec.app first; most things can be fixed by email.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update the date below. Significant changes will be announced on this website before they take effect.
